Joan A. Zimmerman


Joan A. Zimmerman, 84, Taylor, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021 surrounded by her family at home. Joan’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton, with Fr. Thomas Wordekemper, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a rosary and vigil at 4 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Deacon Robert Bohn presiding.

Joan A. Forster was born on October 4, 1936 in Richardton at the family home, the daughter of Nick and Johanna (Schantz) Forster. She was raised and educated in Richardton, having graduated from St. Mary’s High School.

Joan was united in marriage to Roger F. Zimmerman on July 19, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church, Richardton.

Joan was the hot lunch cook for Taylor School for 20 years. Her fondest memories during this time were with the students. She treasured the lifetime friends she had made, especially the cookie stealers. Joan enjoyed the students as adults sharing their memories with her when she was the hot lunch cook.

She was a past member of the Taylor Park Board, Taylor Senior Citizens and Taylor Horsefest. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, embroidering and quilt making.

Joan is survived by her husband, Roger; their children, Roxanne Zimmerman, Hebron, Cindy (Ernie) Wolla, Dickinson and Patrick Zimmerman, Jamestown; grandchildren, Sarah (Bill) Cerkoney, Nikki Wolla, Tara (Lawrence) Brooks, Ashley Zimmerman, and Tanner (Brittany) Zimmerman; great-grandchildren, Bryce Cerkoney, Maddi Wolla and Noella Brooks; siblings and in-laws, Charles (Jeannette) Forster, Richardton, Lillian Hunke, Bismarck, Al Begger, Wibaux, Mont., and Joan Metz, Dickinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Dennis; and her siblings and spouses, Rose (Arnold) Hueske, Anita Kunda, Germaine (Randy) Cole, Lucille Begger, Rita (Robert) Gress, Glen Forster and James Forster.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to CHI Health Connect at Home or St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund.
