Doris (Reopelle) Steinolfson, 84, Dickinson, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson after a courageous battle with ALS. There will be a private memorial service for Doris held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Lisa Lewton as officiant. There will be public visitation on Saturday from 8 a.m., to 12 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service. Inurnment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson.

Doris Jacobina was born March 19, 1936 to Margaret (Bjornson) and John Goodman at a farm close to Svold. She went to a rural school, then she graduated from Cavalier High School in 1954. Doris attended Mayville State Teachers College. After that, she taught 31 years in the school system, 29 of them in Dickinson.

Doris married Leon Reopelle on August 25, 1956 at Cavalier. To this union four children were born: Helen Margaret, David John, Alan Richard, and Roger Leon. They made their home in Grafton until 1963 when they moved to Dickinson. Leon Reopelle died January 15, 1980.

On July 23, 1994, Doris married Marino Steinolfson at Mountain. They spent summers in Mountain and the remainder of the year in Dickinson until her retirement in 1998, when they began splitting their time more evenly between the two locations. Marino died January 31, 2012.

Doris enjoyed reading, watching sports, baking and cooking, but most of all enjoyed her family and friends. She spent most of her life caring for others, until the last three years when she had to rely on others to help care for her. Even with all the challenges she faced, she maintained her positive attitude until the end.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Helen (Gene) Gudmundson, Mountain; daughter-in-law, Tanna (Rustand) Reopelle, Fargo; step-children: Margaret (Stephen) Dahl, Hatton, Marilyn (Irvin) Troftgruben, Grand Forks, Cheryl McEwen, Durham, N.C., Marino Gene (Janet) Steinolfson, Spokane, Wash., and Thomas (Lisa) Steinolfson, Abercrombie; nine grandchildren: Sarah (Cesar Ercole)Gudmundson, Wesley Chapel, Fla.; Mindy (Jeff) Frye, Edina, Minn., Miranda (Scott) Niemi; St. Paul, Minn., Laura Gudmundson, Bloomington, Minn., Nathan Reopelle, Oakdale, Minn., Paul Reopelle, Minneapolis, Minn., Natalie (Presley) Straub, Dickinson, Molly (Brock) Davis, Fargo, and Regina Reopelle, Calif.; 12 great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and 22 step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, five of whom were considered her “other” kids: Dawn (Gary) Wanner, Dickinson, Kathy (Dennis) Kohler, Dickinson, Carole (Bill) Schalow, Fargo, Steven (Kristi) Dullum, Seattle, Wash., and Linda (Dan) Olstad, Nashville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Leon Reopelle and Marino Steinolfson; three sons: David, Alan, and Roger Reopelle; and three brothers: Marino, Halldor, and John Goodman.
